Health concerns us all - it is not only the result of our personal behaviour or our genetic predisposition, but is also strongly influenced by the social, political and economic conditions in which we live. Understanding health therefore requires a holistic approach that combines a wide range of areas - from biology and psychology to social factors and planetary environmental aspects.
This holistic perspective is at the centre of the ‘Health in Society’ research network, which was established at the University of Vienna in 2024. The research network brings together scientists to research health, medicine and well-being from different perspectives and disciplines, taking into account global contexts.
Interdisciplinary collaboration not only generates new scientific findings, but also valuable partnerships with other research institutions and stakeholders from civil society, politics and business. The research network aims to initiate research in and with society and for society. It is intended to become a platform that enables scientists and the general public to exchange ideas on health issues, contribute to solutions for the pressing health problems of our time and actively work towards a better future for all - at local, national and international level. The University of Vienna thus makes an important contribution to broadening the understanding of health and initiating social change.
